Bloggers heart Huckabee
As the Iowa straw poll draws near, Mitt Romney is the benefactor of most good news as most pre-polls of likely voters show him ahead by a wide margin. However, it’s these type of events which can also catapult or lay to rest a second tier candidate. These same polls show Mike Huckabee now in a statistical tie for fourth with John McCain, and conservative bloggers are energized by Huckabee’s possible “surprise” showing. Huckabee got over 20% of conservative buzzshare yesterday, and most of it was positive.
Captain’s Quarters says, “For Huckabee, this looks like the first step of a breakout from the second-tier pack. His experience as Governor made him the most likely candidate to stretch towards the front-runners, and his gentle manner and conservative philosophy makes him an attractive candidate. Huckabee could make himself the conservative alternative, especially if Fred takes too long to get started and McCain can’t turn his campaign around.”
Reformed Chicks Blabbing likes Huckabee’s “folksiness”, Iowa Voice says, “he’s smart, he’s funny, (and) he knows what he’s talking about,” and The Politico reports that viewers loved his recent Iowa debate performance. With Fred Thompson still dangling his feet in the water and John McCain re-packaging his campaign, Huckabee, Paul, and Tancredo have perhaps the most to win or lose in the upcoming opinion poll.
