Obama and Pakistan
Still running behind Senator Hillary Clinton in national polls, Senator Barack Obama is following up last week’s positive showing in the political blogosphere with another week of attention, but not necessarily the type of attention he wants.
According to data tracked at Wonkosphere.com, Obama got 50% of liberal buzzshare and 70% of conservative buzzshare yesterday, most concerning his speech on terrorism–and most of teh buzz was negative. Obama’s big line was his statement that he would potentially go into Pakistan if it was warranted, whether the U.S. had Musharraf’s support or not.
They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al-Qa’eda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.
While some liberals saw this as a strategic outflanking of the right, Biden, Dodd, and Richardson quickly came out strongly against the statement, as did many conservative bloggers.
It is not completely predictable which way this will fly for Obama, the next 2 days will tell.
